San Antonio September 2016

Our 2016 reunion was held September 29 to October 2 at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk.

Because there are so many things to see and do within walking distance or a short drive from the hotel we planned minimal organized group tours to allow for maximum time to socialize and sightseeing.

The event began on Thursday at 1:00pm with registration in the hotel’s Q bar.
The Hospitality Suite opened at 4:00pm followed by dinner on our own.

On Friday many classmates visited local attractions such as the Alamo, Fernando Cathedral, Trolley Tour, Briscoe Western Art Museum and Menger hotel lobby.
The Hospitality suite opened in mid-afternoon but closed briefly for the No Host cocktail party in the Chula Vista room. After dinner on our own most classmates returned to the Hospitality suite for more reminiscing.

Saturday’s activities started with a 1:30pm Group Barge Cruise on the San Antonio River. The Hospitality Suite opened when we returned from the River Tour.
The OC20-69 San Antonio Reunion dinner opened with a No Host cocktail party in the Chula Vista room.
After a welcome by Bob Turner, Mark Manfred offered the Invocation. Then Charles Thomas led us in the Missing Man Toast followed by comments by Mike Latimer.
After dinner LTC(retired) Stephen M. Blanchette discussed the fact that USAA is no longer just auto insurance.
Then Ron Milam updated us on recent events at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Education Center at The Wall and his soon to be released second book, “The Vietnam War in Popular Culture.”
Again after dinner most classmates returned to the Hospitality suite for more reminiscing.

On Sunday morning we sadly dispersed with all classmates vowing to gather again in 2019 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our graduation of OC20-69, AIRBORNE OCS!

Thanks to Bob Turner, Linda Hitchens, Ron Milam and Mike Latimer for arranging such a memorable event.
